Widows, children and grandchildren of many of those slain by Italy’s various mafias are rallying in Naples to protest organized crime.
An Italian priest who runs a group called “Libera” (Free) organizes the march and helps citizens fight organized crime.
The annual march on the first day of spring drew thousands of participants Saturday along Naples’ waterfront.

Three days of intense fighting between police and insurgents in a wooded area of Dagestan ended Saturday with five officers and about a dozen militants left dead, Russian officials said.
Regional Interior Ministry spokesman Mark Tolchinsky said 14 insurgents were killed, but the Interfax news agency cited the Federal Security Service as saying 12 died.

Three days after Barack Obama became president, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made a prediction: Democrats would make big mistakes that would play into the Republicans’ hands going into the 2010 midterm elections.

Armed with new deficit estimates, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad is pressing to cut up to $28 billion, or almost half, of the increased appropriations sought by President Barack Obama for domestic and foreign aid programs in the coming year.

The US Supreme Court takes up a closely watched case on Tuesday examining when a documentary film may violate election law and become an illegal form of campaign advocacy.
The justices are being asked to decide whether the FECs action was unconstitutional government censorship that violated the documentary producers free speech rights.

The Obama administration is hoping it has finally come up with the right formula to resolve the nation’s worst banking crisis in 70 years.
